College Park, Md. -- Mark Wellman, director of College Park Scholars’ Business, Society and the Economy (BSE) program, is the 2012 Legg-Mason Award Legg-Mason Award winner for innovative teaching involved in immersion programs that incorporate domestic and foreign travel.

Two Scholars Students, Shawn Jang, a Finance major and sophomore in the Business, Society, and Economy Program and Alex Leidy a Theatre major and sophomore in the Arts Scholars Program, were recently selected as award recipients in the “This I Believe…” Essay Contest as part of the Provost’s Colloquy on Diversity, Democracy, & Higher Education.

During their trip to the United Arab Emirates over spring break, Business, Society, and the Economy Scholars visited with Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud is the heir apparent, a leader that is in line to inherit the throne.

Dr. Mark Wellman, Director of the Business, Society, and the Economy (BSE) Scholars Program, will be honored with the Kirwan Undergraduate Education Award at the Faculty and Staff Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, October 12, at 3:00 pm in the Memorial Chapel.

College Park, Md. – Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest honor society at College Park, recently held elections for its student chapter. Elected as the chapter president was Kate Goerke, a senior accounting major in the University’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, and College Park Scholars in Business, Society and the Economy Citation recipient.

College Park, Md. - Mark Wellman, director of Business, Society and the Economy (BSE) has been selected to receive this year’s Outstanding Faculty Educator Award. Dr. Wellman is a Tyser Teaching Fellow at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Dr. Brian Shaffer, assistant professor of Logistics, Business and Public Policy at the Robert H. Smith School of Business was killed in an automobile accident in West Virginia on April 5, 2008. He served the College Park Scholars community from 2001 to 2007 as the associate director of Business, Society and the Economy (BSE).
