Current and Prospective Parents
Welcome to College Park Scholars
The Scholars Family Link represents the energy and outreach that the College Park Scholars program emphasizes on connecting with the parents and families of our students. Throughout the undergraduate career of your sons and daughters, we know you will share in significant milestones and life's challenges - from somewhat trivial to terribly serious - and we anticipate that this link will provide another layer of support for you during these transitional years for your student. We are confident that you will find this resource easy to use as well as informative.
Scholars hopes to reach your unique population in several ways:
- Scholars Family Link eNewsletter:
Current Newsletter: April 2008
This is a service to all parents and family members of the students and alumni of College Park Scholars. On a monthly basis during the fall and spring semesters, we publish the Scholars Family Link eNewsletter to keep our Scholars' parents and families informed and connected. - Upcoming and Special Events:
Next Event: 12th Annual Academic Showcase
Throughout the year, we aim to provide our parent and family populations with events of their own to allow for connections with the faculty and administration of our living-learning community, as well as to foster connections with other parents and families. These events range from participation in the University's Family Weekend to special evenings at area attractions. - Scholars Newsdesk:
Stay informed about current events and news surrounding the University of Maryland and College Park Scholars. Please feel free to browse the extensive collection of news archives Scholars has pulled together to highlight our students, alumni, and faculty. - Support Scholars:
Many opportunities are available for supporting the College Park Scholars program. Whether you are a family member, alumnus, or interested volunteer, your support is always greatly appreciated. - UM Office for Parent & Family Affairs:
Scholars recognizes that coming to college is a significant event for your son or daughter. The University of Maryland's Office for Parent & Family Affairs has tremendous resources for parents and family members regarding student issues, information about the city of College Park, University calendars, and how you can become involved on campus.
Additionally, Scholars welcomes support from our parent and family populations. Over the years, parents of our Scholars have served as volunteers, guest speakers, site hosts (for events, research and internship opportunities, and experiential learning visits), and donors. We genuinely appreciate this support ~ it makes us that much stronger as one of the premier living-learning programs in the country. More information will become available about how to support the program in these ways on this website, or through Kevin Baxter, our Assistant Director who is responsible for providing leadership around this outreach effort.
We hope that you will find the Family Link helpful and resourceful. Scholars believes that maintaining an encouraging relationship with your son and daughter is important to his/her education. The information in our link is updated on a regular basis. We hope you will continue to use this website as a resource throughout your child's educational career. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Scholars Assistant Director, Kevin Baxter. Parental consultations are also available through the University of Maryland's Parent Warmline.
