Broadway Show & Room Registration
In March 2010, student registrants will be invited back to the registration website to register their preferences for roommates and a Broadway show. Reservations for Broadway shows are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If students do not return to the registration page during the indicated time window, their show will be chosen for them and they will be placed in a room with other Scholars students chosen by the Scholars’ office.
During this registration window, students will also be selecting their roommates for the weekend in New York City. Each room will have two queen beds and will sleep four student participants. All rooms will adhere to the same-gender policies. Students may select roommates from the pool of registered participants. These roommates do not have to be from the same Scholars program. If students do not select a specific roommate, or roommates, by the closing of the registration window, their roommates will be selected for them by the Scholars Office.
Mandatory Student Information Sessions
Students planning on attending the Scholars in New York trip will have to participate in a mandatory information session. The students will be provided trip information, expectations around behavior and conduct, and a general itinerary for the weekend. Students who do not attend one of the three information sessions will not be allowed to attend the New York trip. Those students who fail to attend a session will have their registration canceled, will not be eligible for a refund, and will be subject to cancellation charges and penalties. These sessions will occur on the following dates and times:
Monday, March 29, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in 1100 Cambridge Community Center
Tuesday, March 30, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. in 1100 Cambridge Community Center
Wednesday, March 31, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in 1100 Cambridge Community Center
Conduct
As a student in College Park Scholars, you represent your individual program, the Scholars community, and the University of Maryland whenever you travel. You will make an impression upon New York City during the weekend trip - please make sure the hotel, the museums, the parks, the restaurants, and Broadway theatres will want to invite us back for another adventure.
No curfew has been posted for the students; the Scholars staff believes in your maturity. If, however, you abuse this trust in any way - alcohol, drugs, violence, vandalism, or disrespect - your actions will be dealt with accordingly in New York City and upon our return to campus.
If at any time your conduct does not positively reflect your program, you will be warned, and you may be restricted from activities, or sent home without a refund.
Be Courteous and Responsible!
Refund and Cancellation Policy
Due to the nature of this event and the contracts that have already been entered into, registrations are binding and cannot be refunded once students have paid. The exceptions to this rule are as follows:
1) Students are on a waiting list from the program of the student seeking a refund and can assume that student's seat. This exchange must occur prior to February 28, 2010; or
2) Students are faced with a serious emergency illness or death in the family in the week leading up to the trip and must cancel. Proof of excuse must be made in order to obtain any refund.
Unbeknownst midterms, projects, sporting events, or other activities will not be tolerated as legitimate excuses to cancel your registration in expectation of a refund. Please plan ahead accordingly.
Should you decide to cancel without a refund or fail to check-in the morning of the event, you will forfeit your registration fee and be held accountable for all additional subsidy fees your program has provided to support your participation. Please understand that this will require you to refund your Scholars program the amount they have committed beyond that which you paid at the point of registration. If you fall into this category and do not reimburse your program directly, your student account may be charged for these fees. If you wish to learn the exact fees in question, please contact your program faculty.
Please note: Any refunds that are permitted will be subject to a $20.00 processing fee.
