Three College Park Scholars Inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa

Three College Park Scholars alumni were among those inducted into the Sigma Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) at the April 5th initiation ceremony held at the campus’s Memorial Chapel. Established in 1927, ODK recognizes those who have attained a high standard of efficiency in five areas of collegiate activities -- Scholarship; Athletics; Campus or Community Service, Social, and Religious Activities, and Campus Government; Journalism, Speech, and the Mass Media; and the Creative and Performing Arts. The chapter strives for members’ accomplishments to inspire others for similar achievement.
In addition to the induction ceremony, initiates and their families shared in a banquet in Thomas Hall at the University’s Golf Course Clubhouse. The following College Park Scholars alumni were inducted:
Sarah Montague Shepson is double-majoring in Government and Politics, and Chinese; she earned her College Park Scholars Citation in International Studies, in 2007. Sarah has served as the Panhellenic Council Representative and President of Alpha Delta Pi and as a Student Defender with the Undergraduate Student Legal Aid office. She has represented College Park on the University System of Maryland’s Student Council and served on the Residence Hall Judicial Board. Sarah is a member of Order of Omega, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She graduated from West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School, West Lafayette Indiana, in 2004.
Jamie Kimberly Lok is a Master’s student in Public Health. She has been involved with Eta Sigma Gamma National Health Education Honor Society having served as both Vice President and President. In 2004, Jamie earned her College Park Scholars Citation in Media, Self and Society in 2004, and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, in 2006. Jamie’s been involved with the Asian American Student Union and volunteered extensively as a Peer Educator in the University Health Center.
Kevin Baxter is the Assistant Director for External Relations and Development for College Park Scholars program. He earned his College Park Scholars Citation in Advocates for Children in 1998, his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2001, and his Masters in Business Administration in 2008.
While Kevin has worked primarily with students in the College Park Scholars program, he has always looked for ways to work with alumni. Through his initiative, the College Park Scholars Alumni Association has been formally incorporated, providing numerous leadership opportunities on its Board and attracting over 1,000 participants. Kevin currently serves as President of this Association. Currently, Kevin is an active member of the University Senate.
