Peace Corps Deputy Director Olsen Speaks to Advocates for Children Seminar

College Park, Md. – Josephine K. “Jody” Olsen, Deputy Director of the Peace Corps, spoke to sophomores enrolled in the Advocates for Children Advocacy in Action seminar, on April 22. Her comments emphasized the life-changing role of serendipity, the importance of being ‘in the moment’ through active observation and listening skills, and that respect for others fosters respect for oneself. She concluded her comments by encouraging students to go with their passion.
For 47 years, the Peace Corps has endeavored to achieve its three fundamental goals: To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women; To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served; and to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
Dr. Olsen holds a bachelor's degree in sociology with a teaching certificate from the University of Utah; a master's degree in social work from the University of Maryland; and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland's College of Education.
