Once Again, Maryland Makes the U.S. News Grade

August 20, 2007

For the sixth consecutive year that U.S. News and World Report has published a list of schools with outstanding examples of academic programs that are believed to lead to student success, Maryland , once again, makes the grade. Similar to past years, of the eight categories of programs, College Park appears on the lists of "First-year experiences," "Learning communities," "Service-learning," "Undergraduate research/creative Projects," and "Study abroad."

"We in College Park Scholars can feel confident in sharing the U.S. News acknowledgments with the rest of the campus's learning communities," said Greig Stewart, Scholars Executive Director. "Additionally, our emphasis on undergraduate research, service-learning and global awareness and exploration, also contributes to the campus-wide efforts in these areas."

College Park Scholars is a multi-disciplinary learning community in which academically and creatively talented freshmen and sophomores explore their future professional and personal roles. The program prepares students academically for competitive research opportunities and challenging internships. Through public service, civic engagement and team projects, Scholars examine and develop their personal character.
