College Park Scholars Study Abroad in China

December 21, 2005

The University of Maryland invites students in the College Park Scholars and University Honors Program who would be juniors in 2006-07 to apply for a special exchange program in China. The University of Maryland is launching a unique undergraduate exchange study abroad program with Sichuan University. This Chinese university has been designated to become one of the first rank Chinese universities. It is located in Chengdu, in the fertile western Chinese plain and near the Tibetan mountains. This area is the richest in biodiversity and is also home to many non-Han minorities. Sichuan University provides unique opportunities to study environmental and conservation issues, traditional Chinese medicine, plant and animal sciences, anthropology, and ethnic and minority studies, among other subjects.

In partnering with students at the University of Washington (Seattle), UM's students would spend the Spring 2007 Semester and Summer 2007 at Sichuan University, taking courses and doing undergraduate research focusing on science and technology (areas in our Colleges of Chemical & Life Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engineering, and Computer, Mathematical & Physical Sciences). An equivalent number of Sichuan students would attend UM during this period. Scholarships are available.
