Shapiro Contributes, Once Again, to the Scholarship on Learning Communities

June 7, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Nancy Shapiro, founding director of the College Park Scholars program and current Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University System of Maryland, once again, has advanced the scholarship on learning communities in higher education. Sustaining & Improving Learning Communities, a companion volume to the groundbreaking book, Creating Learning Communities, has recently been published by Jossey-Bass Publishers

This book is a result of the continued collaboration between Shapiro and her co-author, Jodi Levine Laufgraben. In addition to addressing the challenging issues of assessment and sustainability, the authors argue that learning communities are effective means to promote civic engagement, service learning, and K-12/K-16 partnerships.
