Clarke Scholarships by the local Primannum Honor Society. Primannum is a campus honors chapter representing two national honor societies: Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma. Members of Primannum's scholarship committee based their decision on academic excellence, community service and faculty recommendations. Ms. Mittal and Mr. Janoff competed with over 300 applicants for the two awards. Both Maryland recipients will be considered for a national Phi Eta Sigma scholarship.
Dr. Roxanne Lefkoff, director of the College Park Scholars Business Society and the Economy program said of Janoff: “He impresses me as a very bright, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual. His scholarship is outstanding, his personality is genuine, and I predict he will go far in anything he chooses. I have been teaching undergraduates here at UMD for fourteen years. Dan Janoff is one of my all time top students and is very deserving of the Helen E. Clarke Scholarship Award.” Dr. Brian Shaffer, associate director of Business Society and the Economy wrote of Ana: “She has demonstrated all of the values of College Park Scholars: commitment, civility and consideration of others.” In particular, Dr. Shaffer noted Ana’s service project where she mentored high school students from immigrant families acclimating to the United States.
