Events & Activities

Required Activities

Students are required to attend one field trip per semester. If they choose, they may sign up for one additional field trip. For the 2009-2010 academic year, we have scheduled the following trips:

Fall 2009

Spring 2010

We need to know which field trip you wish to attend by the beginning of the Fall semester, no later than September 13. In the Spring semester, all Freshmen are required to attend the field trip to the Holocaust Museum. Students are required to pay $20.00, by either cash or check. Please make your checks out to the University of Maryland and give them to your Teaching Assistant.

We may schedule additional optional events for the Spring semester.

Optional Activities

In addition, the College Park Scholars Program (CPSP) sponsors a weekend trip to New York City on 16-18 April 2010. The trip is voluntary and requires a co-pay of $199. We will arrange activities such as a tour of the United Nations and other activities, time permitting. For more information, please visit Scholars In New York.

We would also like to encourage some students to participate in the IS Model United Nations (UN) Team and IS Model Organization of American States (OAS) Team. The Model UN Team competes every February in Boston, MA., at the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference. The Model OAS Team competes every March/April in Washingon, D.C., at the Washington Model OAS Conference. Both trips will also require co-pay from students, although the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences along with the Department of Government and Politics will provide some financial support for those students who choose to join one of the teams. If the IS Model UN and the IS Model OAS Programs interest you, please let your discussion leader know as soon as possible. The two teams will be primarily for the First Year students.
