Events and Activities

Students are required to attend one field trip per semester. If they choose, they may sign up for one additional field trip. For the 2008-2009 academic year, we have scheduled the following trips:

Spring 2008

1.   The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum: TBA

Fall 2007

  1. The Organization of the American States: TBA
  2. The Ropes Course on Campus: TBA
  3. The Embassy of South Africa: TBA
  4. The Embassy of Rwanda: TBA
  5. The Department of State: TBA

We need to know which field trip you wish to attend by the beginning of the Fall semester, no later than September 13. In the Spring semester, all Freshmen are required to attend the field trip to the Holocaust Museum. Students are required to pay $15.00 co-pay for all the field trips. Please make your checks out to the University of Maryland and give them to your Teaching Assistant. In addition, the College Park Scholars' community sponsors a weekend trip to New York City in the Spring; that trip is voluntary and requires a co-pay of $199. We will arrange activities such as a tour of the United Nations and other activities, time permitting.

We would also like to encourage some students to attend the Model United Nations (UN), held in the Spring; more details on this will follow. The Model UN trip also will require co-pay, although the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the Department of Government and Politics will provide some financial support for those students who choose to attend. If this interests you, please let your T.A. know as soon as possible. The Model UN program will be for the Freshman students.

We may schedule additional optional events for the Spring semester.
