San Juan, Puerto Rico: January 20-25, 2008

Cultures of the Americas Scholars traveled to San Juan Puerto Rico during the Winter term 2008. The trip fulfills the requirements for the Spring 2008 Cultures of the Americas colloquium. This is our elaborated itinerary.

Prior to the trip, we asked students to assemble a virtual tour of the island. Their virtual tours entailed the creation of small, interactive exhibits that gave a small slice of Puerto Rican life and culture. Examples of what they did included preparing signature dishes, describing aspects of daily life (music, meals, economics and politics that touch everyday living) profiling cultural events, and examining a cultural practice.
