Advocates for Children

Program Requirements

To earn an Advocates for Children Scholars Citation, you must model good community citizenship and complete 15 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in all courses at UM during the two-year period of the Scholars program. If you are exempt from ENGL 101, you must complete 12 credits. These credits must be satisfied during the two-year period of the Scholars program. Internships are optional and, if taken for credit, require the permission of the Advocates for Children faculty director(s). All students are expected to comply with the University's Code of Academic Integrity.

Colloquium (Total of 3 credits)

  • CPSP 118C Introduction to the World of Children (1 credit)

  • CPSP 218C Advocacy and Discovery (1 credit)

  • CPSP 259C Advocacy and Child Policy (1 credit)

Composition (unless exempt*) (3 credits)
*College-level composition coursework is strongly recommended for all students.

  • ENGL 101 (3 credits)

Capstone: Advocacy in Action (3 credits)

  • CPSP 318C (3 credits) - choose one of the following options:

    Community Mobilization
    Community Leadership
    Community-Based Research

Human Development (3 credits)
